Celuform team gets into swing at Royal Dublin golf club

Celuform - 22nd September 2015

When a team from Celuform helped a talented golfer raise funds to tee off on a new professional tour, they had no idea they would also meet a sporting legend.

A team of four from the PVC-UE building products manufacturer took part in the Niall Kearney Golf Day at the Royal Dublin Golf Club.

The day aimed to help Niall, whose father is the MD of Dublin-based Celuplast, raise funds to take part in the Asian Tour professional golf tournament.

While getting into the swing of the day, Celuform’s business development manager for Scotland and Ireland, John Gunn, was delighted to meet World Golf Hall of Fame honouree Christy O’Connor Snr.

John said: “Our team performance may have left a lot to be desired, but it was amazing to be able to play at such a superb course and support this talented professional golfer. Meeting Christy O’Connor Snr was really the icing on the cake!”

Moran Cup winner and Irish PGA Champion Niall, 27, is taking part in the European, Challenge and Asian Tours this season.

His father Joe and uncle Eamon are directors of Dublin-based Celuplast, which is Celuform’s largest customer in Southern Ireland.
While the family business is building plastics, the Kearneys have some serious sporting credentials, with Niall’s younger brother Michael playing rugby for Irish club Leinster.

Eamon Kearney, who will be caddying for the golf pro on an upcoming leg of the European Tour in Russia, explained the importance of the fundraising day.

He said: “Niall has had a solid start to the season, but there’s a lot of golf coming up over the next three months. While he has some key sponsors, tournament costs soon add up, so days like the one at the Royal Dublin are hugely important and we thank Celuform for their support.”

John Gunn added: “We are always happy to support customers like Celuplast, but this day was a privilege to take part in.

“We wish Niall the very best for all of his tournaments this season.”

Christy O’Connor was elected to the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2009 in recognition of his achievements as a golfer. Throughout the 1960s he won at least one professional event a year on the British Tour. He represented his country many times at the Ryder and World Cup events.
